I had a longing for eggnog battered french toast for breakfast on New Year's while subconsciously knowing doing a fry-up was probably not on the cards. I remember saying I'm going to prep it after dinner, only to get lost in the bubbles and resurface briefly about 5 minutes to midnight. Luckily that's all that's needed because this is super simple.

Ragged chunks of toasty bread, eggnog, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and a couple of eggs. All the wet ingredients, sugar and cinnamon get a mix before being poured over the bread in a greased baking dish. Sprinkle with the nutmeg and pop in the fridge till morning. Bake in a moderate oven for 50 minutes to an hour. Drizzle with vanilla sugar syrup and sprinkle with icing sugar.

Served warm with a drizzle of cold cream for contrast..leftover eggnog and liquid whipping cream with a sprinkle of sugar and cinnamon mixed in. Let the new year begin!
